This study aims to analyze the analogy process that occurs when elementary school students pose area problems. This research uses a qualitative method with a case study approach. The participants used in this study were fifth . The selection of participants was done purposively. The results showed that in giving the source problem 24 students were able to solve the problem, 29 students were wrong in solving the problem. While in the target problem 36 students gave the wrong answer and 18 students gave the correct solution. The results of this study indicate that elementary school students are able to use analogies in the learning process but in the analogy process there are differences between some students. With this study, researcher suggested that novice elementary school students in posing problems should use analogies as a reasoning process so that in posing new problems they can come up with creative ideas.
