Abstract

Orientalism is an Eastern worldview based on the Western world. One of the impacts of orientalism is stereotypes and sentiments towards Asian women. In Asia there is also an industry that exacerbates stereotypes about Asian women, namely the South Korean entertainment industry, K-pop. Music video (MV) is widely used by many musicians as self-expression and depiction of social reality in society. This study aims to find out the signs of women's struggles in the MV Lim Kim YELLOW. This study uses a qualitative approach using Charles Sanders Peirce's semiotic theory with the focus of this study examining women's struggles through the meaning of signs in Lim Kim YELLOW's MV through observation collection techniques and literature studies. The results of the study show that there are 3 types of struggle found in this MV, namely resistance to orientalism, resistance to the views and sentiments of Asian women, and resistance to patriarchy.
