Virtual Ethnography on Instagram Alter Account Users in a Dramaturgical Perspective

Self-concept has a big role in determining how a person behaves and is the main key in shaping an individual's personality so that he has the freedom to create a drama stage, including alter ego users. This study aims to examine dramaturgy which is focused on knowing the self-concept of Instagram account alter users. This type of research uses a virtual ethnographic qualitative method with a dramaturgical perspective by Erving Goffman with data collection techniques using in-depth interviews. The results of this study indicate that the informant has pressure on the surrounding environment which makes the informant unable to express himself freely so that what is created is only an image. However, on the alter account, the informant forms a different self-concept which makes them free to express themselves so that they have their own charm for themselves and other Instagram users.
