Belief In Breastfeeding Myths With Failure Of Exclusive Breastfeeding & Early Complementary Feeding Practices

Beliefs in breastfeeding myths may influence mothers’ decisions regarding infant feeding and contribute to exclusive breastfeeding failure and early complementary feeding. This study aimed to analyze the association between breastfeeding myth beliefs, exclusive breastfeeding failure, and early complementary feeding practices among mothers with infants aged 6–12 months. This analytical observational study used a cross-sectional design involving 50 mothers in Manaruwi Village, Bangil District, Pasuruan Regency, selected through simple random sampling. Data were collected using structured questionnaires and analyzed using univariate and bivariate analyses with the Chi-square test and odds ratio (OR). The results showed significant associations between beliefs in breastfeeding myths and exclusive breastfeeding failure (p<0.05), as well as early complementary feeding practices (p<0.05). Mothers with stronger myth beliefs were more likely to experience breastfeeding failure and introduce complementary foods before six months. Evidence-based education involving mothers, families, and communities is needed to promote appropriate infant feeding practices.
