Abstract

This study aims to examine senior high school students’ perceptions of Artificial Intelligence (AI) use in English writing learning at SMA Muhammadiyah 2 Sidoarjo. A descriptive quantitative design was employed with 28 students from Class X-3 who had experience using AI tools such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, DeepSeek, DeepL, and Google Translate. Data were collected through a 20-item closed-ended questionnaire using a four-point Likert scale and analyzed using frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation. The findings showed that students perceived AI as a helpful and easy-to-use tool for improving grammar, vocabulary, writing ideas, and text structure. However, students also identified limitations, including inaccurate outputs and confusing grammar suggestions. The overall mean score was 2.48, indicating a moderate perception. The study concludes that AI can support English writing when used responsibly under teacher guidance
