This study examines the effect of Inquiry-Based Learning (IBL) on the speaking skills of seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Wonoayu, implemented through Chapter 1 "About Me" of the English for Nusantara textbook within the Kurikulum Merdeka framework. This study applied a pre-experimental quantitative method using a one-group pre-test and post-test design, involving 36 students who were chosen through purposive sampling. The findings demonstrated a considerable improvement in students' speaking achievement. Furthermore, the Wilcoxon signed-rank test indicated a statistically significant difference between the pre-test and post-test results, confirming that Inquiry-Based Learning (IBL) positively influenced students' speaking skills. These results imply that the effective integration of IBL with the English for Nusantara textbook can strengthen students' communicative competence while supporting the successful implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum in junior high school English learning contexts.
