Speaking is one of the most demanding skills for EFL learners at the junior high school level, as it requires the simultaneous control of linguistic competence and oral production. This study examined the effect of Project-Based Learning (PBL) through a personal profile project on students' speaking skills, using a pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design involving 36 Grade VII-E students of SMP Negeri 1 Wonoayu, Sidoarjo. Speaking performance was measured across four dimensions: fluency, pronunciation, grammar, and comprehension using a rubric adapted from Brown (2004). A paired-sample t-test showed a statistically significant increase in the mean score, from 70.31 in the pre-test to 79.64 in the post-test (t = -20.706, df = 35, p < .001), with a large effect size (d = 1.32). These results confirm that the personal profile project, within a PBL framework, improves junior high school students' speaking skills through structured personally meaningful oral practice.
