This study investigated the effect of using flashcards as a speaking media on students’ speaking ability in recount texts at a vocational high school. The research used a quantitative pre-experimental design with a one-group pre-test and post-test model. The participants were 21 tenth-grade students of class X MP2 at SMK Muhammadiyah 1 Taman. Students’ speaking ability was measured through oral recount tasks before and after the treatment. Flashcards structured according to orientation, events, and reorientation were used to help students organize ideas and speak more confidently. The data were analyzed using a Paired Samples T-test. The findings showed a significant improvement in students’ speaking ability after the use of flashcards, indicating that flashcards are effective for teaching speaking in recount texts.
