Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the effect of Quizalize on tenth-grade students’ reading comprehension of descriptive texts. The research employed a pre-experimental design using a one-group pre-test and post-test design. The participants were 35 tenth-grade students at a public senior high school in Sidoarjo. Data were collected through pre-test and post-test instruments consisting of multiple-choice questions and analyzed using SPSS. Since the normality test indicated that the data were not normally distributed, the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test was applied to examine the research hypothesis. The findings revealed a significant improvement in students’ reading comprehension after the implementation of Quizalize. Students demonstrated better performance in vocabulary understanding, identifying main ideas, locating detailed information, interpreting contextual meaning, and making simple inferences. Furthermore, Quizalize increased students’ engagement and motivation through interactive quizzes, leaderboards, and immediate feedback. Therefore, Quizalize can be considered an effective game-based learning platform for enhancing reading comprehension in EFL classrooms.
