Abstract

This research is motivated by the still-high defect rate in raffia rope products, which exceeds 2%. This study aims to identify the type of failure in the production process, determine the highest risk priority number (RPN), and provide recommendations for improvement. The methods used are Statistical Process Control (SPC) and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA). SPC to monitor process stability, and FMEA to analyze the level of failure risk. The results of this study indicate the highest type of product failure in the rejected rope break product, at 1,275 kg. The highest RPN value of 360 is found in the melting (extrusion) process, with an unstable temperature failure mode that results in a rejected product in the form of a broken rope. The high RPN value is influenced by temperature instability, which prevents the material from melting homogeneously, resulting in a decrease in product strength.
