Abstract

A spare parts company is a manufacturing company that produces components such as gears and rollers. The problem faced by the company lies in its production facility layout, where the production flow is not well organized, resulting in backtracking of material movement. This condition causes longer processing times between workstations and reduces production efficiency due to excessive material handling distances. Therefore, the objective of this study is to redesign the production facility layout to optimize material flow, reduce processing time, and improve production efficiency. The methods used in this study are the Activity Relationship Chart (ARC) to analyze the closeness relationships among activities and Blocplan to generate an optimal layout alternative. The results show that the total material handling distance in the initial layout was 103 meters, while the proposed layout reduced it to 18 meters.
