Abstract

This study examines the internalization of nationalism through Indonesian local wisdom among diaspora students at Sanggar Belajar (SB) AMI Penang, Malaysia. The research used a descriptive qualitative approach with observation, interviews, and documentation as data collection techniques. Data were analyzed interactively and validated through source and technique triangulation. The findings show that art-, culture-, and skill-based learning activities contribute to strengthening students’ nationalism. Activities such as traditional dances, regional songs, traditional games, local foods, and flag ceremonies help students develop cultural pride, confidence, and a stronger attachment to Indonesian identity. Although limited facilities and human resources remain challenges, teachers and school administrators continue to preserve Indonesian cultural values through adaptive learning strategies. This study contributes to the development of nationalism education for children of Indonesian migrant workers in non-formal educational settings abroad.
