Psychoeducation on the prevention of sexual violence by increasing self-awareness in foster children in orphanages

Abstract

Sexual violence against children is a serious problem that continues to increase and has long-term impacts on children's psychological development. Foster children in orphanages are a vulnerable group due to limited supervision and adequate access to information. Preventative measure that can be implemented is through psychoeducation with a self-awareness boosting approach. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of psychoeducation for preventing sexual violence in increasing the self-awareness of foster children at the Sahabat Yatim dan Dhuafa Foundation in Sidoarjo. This study used a one-group pretest–posttest design without a control group. 25 respondents aged 10–18 years were selected using total sampling techniques as research subjects. Data were analyzed using the Shapiro–Wilk test and the Wilcoxon Signed Rank test. The analysis results, there was a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test scores (Z= –2.038; p= 0.042), which indicates that there was an increase in children's self-awareness after being given education
