Abstract

Ghibah in educational environments remains a major ethical challenge despite high religiosity, disrupting professional harmony among educators. This study developed a Sharia-based ghibah control model using the Six Sigma (DMAIC) approach integrated with SWOT analysis to establish a sustainable Islamic communication system. Employing a Sequential Explanatory Mixed Method, data were collected from 235 respondents across three educational institutions through surveys, interviews, and observations. Quantitative analysis using DPO, DPMO, and Sigma Level showed that listener involvement (97.02%) and active ghibah behavior (95.32%) were the dominant defects, with sigma levels averaging 2.36–2.38. Qualitative findings identified social habits and weak religious commitment as key causes. Strategic SO-WO-ST-WT analysis generated an integrated improvement model including Islamic communication training, moral development, anti-ghibah SOPs, and media campaigns. The Six Sigma–SWOT synergy effectively reduced ghibah practices while strengthening ethical communication culture grounded in Islamic values.
