Strengthening Class-Based Religious Character Education in State Elementary Schools

Education plays a vital role not only in developing students’ cognitive abilities but also in shaping their character, particularly their religious character. This study aims to explore effective strategies for strengthening religious character education in public elementary schools through a classroom-based approach. The method used is qualitative with a descriptive design, conducted at SDN Trompoasri 2 with second-grade students as the subjects. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation involving the principal, teachers, and students. The results of the study indicate that the strengthening of religious character can be effectively achieved through structured classroom activities, such as the regular practice of religious activities and teachers serving as role models. Activities such as daily prayersQur’an, as well as polite behavior and mutual respect play a role in instilling religious values. The role of teachers as role models is crucial in shaping students’ religious attitudes through observational learning and consistent practice.
