The Effect of Contextual Learning on Student Comprehension in Elementary Schools
Pengaruh Pembelajaran Kontekstual terhadap Pemahaman Siswa Disekolah Dasar

This study was motivated by the low level of understanding among elementary school students in Natural Sciences (IPAS), mainly caused by teacher-centered instruction and the frequent use of lecture methods. These conditions make students less active and limit their ability to connect concepts with real-life situations. To address this issue, the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) model was implemented, as it links learning materials to students’ everyday experiences and encourages active participation. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of CTL on students’ understanding. This research used a quantitative method with a one-group pretest-posttest design. It was conducted at Sawocangkring State Elementary School, Wonoayu Subdistrict, Sidoarjo Regency, involving 19 sixth-grade students in the second semester of the 2026/2027 academic year. Data were collected through pretests and posttests and analyzed using the Wilcoxon test due to non-normal data distribution, showing a significant improvement in students’ understanding
