The increasing popularity of mountain climbing among beginners has led to a higher risk of accidents, often due to limited understanding of safety procedures. Traditional safety inductions—such as verbal briefings and printed materials—lack interactivity and fail to simulate real climbing conditions effectively. This study develops and evaluates an Android-based markerless augmented reality (AR) application designed to improve pre-climbing safety induction for novice climbers. Using the Multimedia Development Life Cycle (MDLC), the application was created through stages of concept development, design, material collection, assembly, testing, and distribution. System functionality was verified through black-box testing, confirming that all features operated properly. Feasibility testing with 20 beginner climbers, using a Likert-scale questionnaire, produced an acceptance score of 87%, indicating good to very good user reception. The results highlight the practical potential of immersive, mobile-based AR technology to enhance safety awareness and improve preparatory training effectiveness for novice mountain climbers.
