Abstract

Low birth weight (LBW) infants are vulnerable to hypothermia because their thermoregulation is not fully developed, increasing the risk of neonatal complications and death. This study assessed the effectiveness of the kangaroo method in improving the body temperature of LBW infants. A quantitative quasi-experimental design with a one-group pretest–posttest approach was used. Of 48 LBW infants, 31 were selected through purposive sampling. Body temperature was measured before and after one hour of kangaroo care using a digital thermometer. Data were analyzed with a Paired Sample T-Test at a 0.05 significance level. The mean temperature increased from 36.5°C to 36.7°C after the intervention. Statistical analysis showed a significant difference (p = 0.001 < 0.05). These findings indicate that the kangaroo method effectively increases and maintains body temperature in LBW infants and should be routinely applied as standard care to help prevent hypothermia alongside incubator support
