The study of ma‘ani as a branch of Arabic rhetoric requires harmony between linguistic structure and contextual meaning in discourse. Despite extensive theoretical discussions, empirical studies on its instructional practices in multicultural universities remain limited. This research analyzes the implementation of ma‘ani learning at Sultan Zainal Abidin University using a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were collected through participatory observation and in-depth interviews with lecturers and students, then analyzed using the interactive model of Miles and Huberman, including data reduction, display, and verification. The findings indicate that learning employs an integrative approach combining inductive (istiqra’iyyah) and deductive (istinbatiyyah) methods. However, several pedagogical challenges persist, particularly the dominance of Arabic as the medium of instruction, limited analytical learning media, and time allocation constraints. Strengthening linguistic competence, managing cognitive load, and applying contextual scaffolding are essential to develop adaptive and effective balaghah pedagogy.
