The Influence of TikTok Social Media on Elementary School Students' Reading Comprehension Skills
Pengaruh Media Sosial TikTok terhadap Keterampilan Membaca Pemahaman Peserta Didik Sekolah Dasar

This study aims to determine the effect of TikTok social media use on the reading comprehension skills of elementary school students. This study uses a quantitative method with a Pre-Experimental Design type of one group pretest-posttest design. The subjects of the study were 25 fifth-grade students of Muhammadiyah 9 Ngaban Elementary School. Data collection techniques were carried out through pretest and posttest reading comprehension skills. Data were analyzed using validity tests, reliability tests, normality tests, homogeneity tests, and hypothesis tests with paired sample t-tests using SPSS version 25. Pretest and posttest data were normally distributed and homogeneous. The t-test results showed a significance value of 0.000 (p <0.05), which means there was a significant difference between the pretest and posttest scores. Thus, it can be concluded that the use of TikTok social media has a significant effect on improving elementary school students' reading comprehension skills.
