Abstract

In the era of globalization and digitalization, music videos have become powerful media for conveying cultural messages. The music video “Lathi” by Weird Genius and Sara Fajira draws attention for its successful fusion of Javanese cultural elements with modern electronic music and advanced visual technology. This study aims to analyze how local culture is represented in a modern form and how these representations construct cultural meanings in a global context. Using a descriptive qualitative approach and Roland Barthes’ semiotic method, the study examines denotative, connotative, and mythological meanings within the video’s visual elements. Data were collected through observation, documentation, and literature review. The findings reveal that traditional dances, clothing, spiritual symbols, and the Javanese language are effectively combined with modern aesthetics, creating a new ideological narrative that affirms local cultural strength amid modernity.
