The Influence of Prosocial Behavior on School Readiness in Preschool Children

School readiness represents an important dimension in supporting children’s success when entering basic education. One factor suspected to influence children’s school readiness is prosocial behavior. This study aims to determine the effect of prosocial behavior on school readiness among preschool children aged 5–6 years. A quantitative approach with a causal design was employed. The population consisted of 106 preschool children aged 5–6 years in the Sidoarjo area. Data were collected using a school readiness scale based on Kagan’s framework adapted by Rahmawati, while a previously developed prosocial behavior scale was reused in this study. Data analysis involved descriptive and inferential statistics using simple linear regression, preceded by normality and linearity tests. The findings indicate that prosocial behavior has a significant and positive effect on school readiness. Therefore, prosocial behavior is a crucial factor in enhancing preschool children’s readiness before entering elementary school.
