Technological developments demand increased efficiency of vehicle engines, especially motorcycles used by Indonesian people. Large piston masses cause friction between the piston and the cylinder wall causing energy losses thereby reducing fuel efficiency, this study aims to determine the effect of piston mass on ethanol fuel consumption. The method used is an experiment with variations in piston mass, namely a standard piston with a mass of 37.1 grams and a piston that has a mass reduction of up to 5 grams. Based on previous research, lightweight pistons in Pertamax gasoline engines show a decrease in fuel consumption. The results of the research test show. Pistons with a lighter mass than the standard achieve fuel consumption of 0.93 ml in no-load testing, accompanied by an increase in torque of 3 HP and a decrease in specific fuel consumption of 1.1 kg / kWh, especially in no-load engine speed conditions.
