Abstract

The increasing number of motor vehicles in Indonesia has caused an increase in exhaust emissions which has a negative impact on air quality. The exhaust system on fuel-injected motorcycles affects the flow of exhaust gases,pressure drop, and gas emissions, particularly CO, HC and CO2. This study aims to analyze the effect of exhaust muffler modifications on exhaust gas emissions and pressure drop in the GSX-R 150 cc motorcycle. The research uses a quantitative experimental approach by comparing the factory-standard exhaust with variations of stainless steel racing exhausts equipped with full or half glasswool mufflers. On the other hand, the racing exhaust variations offer lower pressure drop, indicating a smoother exhaust flow, although they significantly increase harmful emissions. These findings provide recommendations for optimal exhaust design regarding engine efficiency and compliance with emission standards. The recommendation for the exhaust from both test results is a racing exhaust with full glasswool.
