Mother's Knowledge and Attitudes Towards Exclusive Breastfeeding

Exclusive breastfeeding is given from birth until the baby is six months old without any additional food or drink. In Sidoarjo Regency, the exclusive breastfeeding rate in 2023 was 62.86%, which has not reached the national target of 80%. This study aimed to determine the relationship between mothers’ knowledge and attitudes toward exclusive breastfeeding. This quantitative study used a cross-sectional approach, with a population of 21 mothers and a sample of 20 respondents determined by Slovin’s formula. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate methods. Chi-square test results showed significant relationships between knowledge and exclusive breastfeeding (p = 0.013) and between attitude and exclusive breastfeeding (p = 0.009). Increasing knowledge and fostering positive attitudes are key to successful exclusive breastfeeding; thus, education on exclusive breastfeeding is essential. In conclusion, most mothers with good knowledge and positive attitudes practice exclusive breastfeeding, and healthcare workers are expected to enhance related educational efforts.
