Scoping Review The Experience of Breastfeeding in Adolescent Mother

This study examined the breastfeeding experience of adolescent mothers using a scoping review method and the PEOS (Population, Exposure, Outcome, Study Design) framework. Data were extracted from five journal articles published between 2019-2024 in PubMed, ScienceDirect, Google Scholar and Sage Journals databases. The results showed that adolescent mothers face various psychological and social barriers, such as lack of family support, low self-confidence, limited lactation knowledge, and social stigma. However, there is a strong motivation in some adolescent mothers to breastfeed, especially when they receive support from health workers or peer groups. This study concludes that the breastfeeding experience of adolescent mothers is strongly influenced by environmental factors and social support. Therefore, holistic interventions are needed to improve knowledge, build confidence, and create a supportive environment for exclusive breastfeeding practices for adolescent mothers.
