Symbolic Construction of Rackerette Identity: Study of Social Interaction in the Surabaya Billiard Arena

Abstract

Rackerette is a woman who works in the field of billiard sports, the term rackerette is a profession of a woman
who has the expertise to arrange billiard balls precisely. The symbolic construction of rackerette identity consists of
two aspects: verbal and non-verbal communication, this research aims to find out how the symbolic construction of
rackerette identity in building verbal and non-verbal communication at Strike Pool&Cafe. In this research the author
uses qualitative methods with interview techniques, documentation, and observation. The results in this study are
verbal communication built by rackerrrete with persuasive communication, one of which is with a soft language
style and voice intonation. Hospitality is prioritized by providing greetings and typical greetings owned by
rackerrete. Meanwhile, non- verbal communication is built by using T-Shirt and uniforms that are determined by
the size of the clothes that are minimal,make up and perfume as well.
