Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic metabolic disease marked by high blood glucose, which can cause cardiovascular and hematological complications, including changes in red blood cell count, hemoglobin, and hematocrit. Medicinal plants such as red ginger (Zingiber officinale Roxb. var. rubrum) and coriander seeds (Coriandrum sativumL.) offer antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits. This study examined their effects on red blood cell count, hemoglobin, and hematocrit in alloxan-induced male white rats (Rattus norvegicus). A pretest–posttest control group design with five groups was used. Two-Way ANOVA results showed no significant effect on red blood cell count (p = 0.761) or hemoglobin (p = 0.766), but a significant effect on hematocrit (p = 0.000). These findings suggest that red ginger and coriander seed extracts may influence hematocrit in diabetic conditions.
