Abstract

his study aims to evaluate the potential of banana midrib fiber as an alternative non-asbestos material for motorcycle brake pads. Three variations of composition banana midrib fiber powder, aluminum powder, and brass powderwere tested to determine their effect on the hardness and toughness of the material. Mechanical testing methods included Durometer Shore D for hardness and the Charpy impact test for toughness. The results showed that increasing the proportion of metallic powders enhanced the material's hardness but reduced its toughness. Specimen III (30% banana fiber powder, 35% aluminum, 35% brass) had the highest hardness value (74.5 Shore D), while Specimen I exhibited the highest impact strength (2624.66 kJ/m²). This study demonstrates that banana midrib fiber has strong potential as an eco-friendly reinforcement material in composite brake pads
