The Relationship Between Serum Iron (SI) Levels with Erythrocyte Count and Erythrocyte Index in Chronic Kidney Disease Patients

Abstract

Chronic Kidney Disease is a decrease in kidney function in transporting metabolic waste products with a GFR ≤ 60 ml/min/1.73 m2 for more than 3 months. A common complication in CKF is anemia. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between serum iron  levels and the number of erythrocytes and erythrocyte index (MCV, MCH, MCHC) in CKD. The study design used quantitative analysis with the cross sectional method. The results of the kendall's tau-b correlation test between SI, the number of erythrocytes and the erythrocyte index can be concluded that there is no relationship between SI and the number of erythrocytes (p = 0.170; r = -0.128), MCV (p = 0.101; r = 0.153), MCHC (p = 0.657; r = 0.042) and there was a weak relationship between SI and MCH (p= 0.028; r=0.206) in GGK patients undergoing hemodialysis at the Haji Regional Hospital, East Java Province.
