Abstract

This study aims to analyse the effect of aerodynamic modifications, particularly bumper winglets and rear spoilers, on the air drag experienced by a Multi-Purpose Vehicle (MPV). This research was conducted using a prototype experimental approach with a wind tunnel, with predetermined wind speed variations (7m/s, 8.5m/s, 10m/s). Tests were conducted on four configuration models: without modification, with bumper winglets, with rear spoiler, and with a combination of both modifications. The test results show that the addition of the bumper winglet and rear spoiler can significantly reduce the drag force and drag coefficient. The combined model was able to reduce the drag coefficient best, achieving a reduction of up to 38% at a speed of 8.5 m/s. These findings suggest that such modifications can result in substantial improvements in vehicle efficiency and performance, especially at high speeds.
