The Effect of Welding Cooling Media on the Hardness and Microstructure of SPHC Material

Based on the research and analysis of the effect of cooling media on welding SPHC (Steel Plate Hot Rolled Coiled) material on hardness rockwell and microstructure, Quenching resulted in the highest hardness increase (HRB) compared to Quenching of air and oil. With hardness rockwell result of weld metal HRB 74.99, HAZ HRB 90.12 and Base metal HRB 81.39. Meanwhile the microstructure test result showed the highest increase in quenching water, with an increase in pearlite on the area HAZ (75%) and Base Metal (59%) compared to quenching of air and oil. Overall the welding point and quenching affect the mechanical of SPHC material. This research indicates the highest hardness increase after welding in the HAZ area for all three of quenching tested.
