Abstract

Excessive alcohol consumption can cause organ damage, especially to the liver, and may progress to alcoholic liver disease. Gamma-glutamyltransferase (GGT) is a key enzyme used as an indicator of liver dysfunction, including liver parenchymal damage due to alcohol intake. Alcohol also affects levels of Alkaline Phosphatase (ALP), an enzyme found in the liver, bile ducts, and bones. This study was conducted in August 2024 at the Clinical Pathology Laboratory, D-IV Medical Laboratory Technology Program, Muhammadiyah University of Sidoarjo, using an experimental laboratory design. A total of 30 adolescent alcohol consumers were used as research subjects. The examination was conducted using an automated photometric method (Microlab 300). Data analysis was performed using the Independent Samples T-Test, with results indicating no significant differences in ALP levels (p=0,371) and GGT levels (p=0,528) among adolescents consuming alcohol for 1 - 3 years compared
to those consuming for > 3 - 5 years.
