Redesigning the layout of a Fabric Yarn Production Floor Using the ARC Method

Abstract

One company in the textile industry that collaborates with Japan-based Shikibo Ltd. faces a problem with its production facility layout, which does not take into account the proximity of workstations to one another. This results in long material transport distances and causes motion waste in production. This study aims to propose a facility layout that optimizes material transport distances to minimize motion waste on the production floor of the spinning division. The method used was the Activity Relationship Chart (ARC). The results of this study showed that the material movement distance, which was previously 73.10 meters, was optimized to 28.5 meters. The proposed facility layout in this study achieved an efficiency of 61.01%, meaning that motion waste and material flow can be reduced by up to 61.01%.
