Differences in Leukocyte Profiles among Typhoid Fever Patients With Positive Results for typhi O, paratyphi A, and paratyphi B

Abstract

Typhoid and paratyphoid fevers are infectious diseases caused by Salmonella spp. that may alter the leukocyte profile. This study aimed to determine differences in leukocyte profiles among patients positive for typhi O, paratyphi A, and paratyphi B based on the Widal test. An analytic observational study with a comparative approach was conducted using secondary data from medical records of pediatric patients (<15 years) at Kranggan Community Health Center, Mojokerto City, in January–December 2025. A total of 45 patients with a Widal titer of 1/320 were included in each group. Parameters analyzed were total leukocytes, lymphocytes, MID, and granulocytes. Statistical analysis used the Independent Sample t-test and Mann-Whitney test. A significant difference was found in total leukocytes between typhi O and paratyphi B (p<0.05), while other comparisons showed no significant differences. Thus, leukocyte profiles cannot independently distinguish these three groups.
