Abstract

Lapindo Mud media has undergone changes in physical, chemical, and biological characteristics due to mudflow activity, requiring rehabilitation to assess its condition. This study aimed to describe these characteristics of Lapindo Mud media after phytoextraction using cattail (Typha latifolia) following corn cob biochar application. A descriptive method was used with six biochar doses: 0, 50, 100, 150, 200, and 250 g/polibag, applied to 5,000 g of media. Physical characteristics included color, hardness, stickiness, plasticity, bulk density, and porosity. Chemical characteristics included pH and estimated nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and potassium (K), while biological characteristics were assessed through seed germination on the seventh day. Results showed darker color, reduced hardness, stickiness, and plasticity, and decreased bulk density from 1.229 to 0.975 g/cm³. Porosity increased from 53.61% to 63.21%. pH ranged from 3.50 to 6.17, while estimated N, P, and K fluctuated, peaking at 200 g/polibag. Germination increased from 4% to 18%.
