Abstract

This teaching implementation report documents the use of concrete teaching aids to improve first-grade students' understanding of forward and backward counting. The initial problem was that students memorized number sequences without understanding direction, especially when counting backward from a certain number. The strategy combined concrete pictures, number cards, a kinesthetic jumping-number game, drawing favorite numbers, guided discussion, and reflection. Results showed that the average success rate increased from 50% before the activity to 80% after implementation. Student participation increased from 40% to 90%, accuracy in ordering numbers from 1 to 10 increased from 55% to 85%, and focus during the game increased from 45% to 75%. These findings indicate that multisensory concrete activities can strengthen early numeracy and active participation.
