Adolescents Perceptions of Bullying in the Permata Candiloka Residential Area

This study aims to explore adolescents’ perceptions of bullying behavior in the Permata Candiloka Residential Area, Sidoarjo. Bullying is understood as repeated aggressive behavior intended to hurt, demean, or dominate others, whether physically, verbally, or psychologically. This study employed a descriptive qualitative method using observation and interviews with adolescents aged 16–18 years. The findings indicate that bullying in the residential area occurs in various forms, including physical violence, verbal teasing, rumor spreading, social exclusion, and cyberbullying. An analysis based on Attribution Theory shows that adolescents perceive the causes of bullying as stemming from both internal factors, such as the perpetrator’s attitudes and character, and external factors, such as group culture and social norms. In conclusion, bullying in residential communities is a serious phenomenon that requires attention from families, schools, and the wider community through education, counseling, and the creation of a safe and supportive social environment for adolescent development.
