Learning Implementation Report: Interactive Quizzes to Improve Grade 3 Students' Understanding of Environmental Science

Abstract

Science learning on environmental topics in grade 3 often remains dominated by teacher explanation and textbook memorization, while students need concrete, visual, and enjoyable activities to understand the difference between healthy and unhealthy environments. This implementation report describes the use of interactive quizzes supported by picture cards, true-false cards, and point rewards to improve students' participation and conceptual understanding of environmental conservation. The learning objectives focused on identifying characteristics of healthy and unhealthy environments. The implementation was conducted in two 2 x 35-minute sessions with 16 third-grade students. Learning evidence was collected through teacher checklists, quiz results, exit tickets, and notes on misconceptions. The results showed that verbal participation increased from 31% at baseline to 100% in the second session, while students achieving the expected understanding score increased from 38% to 100%. Misconceptions about waste disposal and environmental pollution decreased from 44% to 6%.
