Microcontroller Based People Crossing Prototype Using Pressure PAD Sensor

Abstract

Pedestrian safety in road crossing areas remains a crucial issue due to the limitations of conventional manual systems that are prone to user error. This study aims to design and implement an automatic pedestrian crossing prototype based on the ESP32 microcontroller, integrating a pressure pad sensor (FSR 402) and an ultrasonic sensor (HC-SR04). The research method used is the development method, encompassing the stages of system design, fabrication, and testing. The system is designed with a dual-sensor validation mechanism to prevent false triggers. The testing results show that the FSR 402 sensor has good responsiveness in detecting pressure variations with consistent analog values. Meanwhile, the HC-SR04 ultrasonic sensor proved accurate in measuring object distance with a minimal error margin (±0.1 cm to ±0.2 cm).
