UI and UX Design for an Integrated Electronic Medical Record and Prescription System

Integrated Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and electronic prescribing are needed to improve healthcare service efficiency and patient safety. This study aimed to design the User Interface (UI) and User Experience (UX) of an integrated EMR and prescribing system based on healthcare workers’ needs at XYZ Hospital. A qualitative approach with Participatory Design was applied through observation, interviews, Focus Group Discussions (FGD), and documentation. Eight participants were involved, consisting of physicians, nurses, medical record officers, and pharmacy staff. The study produced an integrated prototype consisting of SOAP and Examination, e-Prescribing, Pharmacy Verification, and ICD Coding and Medical Record Audit. The prototype supports workflow efficiency, interprofessional coordination, and patient safety.
