Design and Development of a Medium-Voltage Early Warning System for Boom Crane Operational Safety

Maintenance work on medium-voltage power lines using a boom crane carries a high risk of workplace accidents due to direct contact between the boom crane and 20 kV live conductors. This study aims to design and build a 20 kV voltage detection early warning system to improve the safety of boom crane operators in medium-voltage power line areas. The research employs the Research and Development (R&D) method, field observation, device design, device implementation, system testing, and evaluation of results. The system is designed using a non-contact electric field detection method with a copper wire antenna as the primary sensor. The signal is amplified using a BC547 transistor and produces an output in the form of an LED and a buzzer as warning indicators. Test results show that the system is detecting the presence of a 20kV electric field starting at a distance of 2 meters from the conductor.
