Security Monitoring System Using the Landmark Method

Abstract

Traditional passive CCTV systems rely on manual monitoring, leading to delayed responses to security breaches. This paper presents a prototype automated surveillance system featuring real-time virtual boundary violation detection using OpenCV and the 33-keypoint MediaPipe Human Landmark framework. By isolating human body frame configurations, the system eliminates false positives from non-target objects, achieving a 0% false positive rate during negative stimulus testing. In field evaluations with normal lighting and dynamic backgrounds, the system operated at an average processing speed of 5 FPS and achieved 100% detection accuracy. Under low-light conditions, reduced pixel contrast at anatomical boundaries decreased accuracy to 80%. These results confirm that human landmark tracking is a reliable method for automated security. Future work will focus on integrating night-vision hardware to optimize low-light performance.
