Abstract

Introduction: Breastfeeding self-efficacy (BSE) is a psychological factor associated with successful breastfeeding. This study analyzed the relationship between BSE in third-trimester pregnant women and postpartum breastfeeding practices. Methods: An observational analytic study with a prospective design involved 36 third-trimester pregnant women selected through purposive sampling from two independent midwife practices in Sidoarjo Regency. BSE was measured using the Breastfeeding Self-Efficacy Scale–Short Form (BSES-SF), while breastfeeding practices were assessed using the WHO IMNCI observation checklist. Data were analyzed using Fisher’s Exact Test and Risk Ratio (RR). Results: High BSE was found in 66.7% of respondents, while 72.2% successfully practiced breastfeeding. A significant relationship was found between BSE and postpartum breastfeeding practices (p=0.001). Mothers with high BSE were 2.75 times more likely to succeed (RR=2.750). Conclusion: Higher third-trimester BSE is associated with a greater likelihood of successful postpartum breastfeeding practices.
