The Relationship Between Acute Inflammatory Biomarkers (LED and CRP) and Blood Sugar Levels With GeneXpert MTB/RIF Test Results in Suspected Pulmonary TB Cases

Tuberculosis (TB) diagnosis using the GeneXpert MTB/RIF is limited by accessibility and turnaround time at primary healthcare facilities. This study aims to analyze the relationship between Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR), C- Reactive Protein (CRP), and random blood glucose (RBG) with GeneXpert results. An analytical observational design with a restrospective cross-sectional approach was conducted on 58 suspected TB patients at Poncokusumo Public Health from January to April 2026. Statistical analysis revealed a strong and highly significant correlation between CRP and GeneXpert results (r = 0.721), between CRP and ESR (r = 0.701) as well as between ESR and GeneXpert (r = 0.636). Conversely, RBG and GeneXpert showed a weak, non significant correlation (r = 0.200). In conclusion, inflammatory biomarkers (ESR and CRP) strongly reflect bacterial load in TB infection. Therefore RBG levels cannot yet be used as a meaningful indicator reflecting the degree of inflammation or GeneXpert outcomes in this study.
