Design and Developemen of an Expert System Using the Forward Chaing Method for Diagnosing Chili Plant Diseases

Abstract

Chili plants are highly susceptible to various diseases, while farmers often have limited access to agricultural experts and insufficient knowledge to identify diseases accurately. This study developed a web-based expert system using the Forward Chaining method to diagnose chili plant . Data were collected through expert interviews and literature review, and system was developed using the Prototype model, including analysis, design, implementation, and testing. The knowledge base consists of IF–THEN rules linking symptoms, diseases, and treatment recommendations. The system integrates a database and an inference engine to provide initial diagnoses. Black-box testing confirmed that all system functions operated correctly, while user satisfaction reached 85.42%. Performance the Confusion Matrix achieved an accuracy of 93.33%, indicating strong agreement with expert diagnoses. The system provides reliable diagnostic support, assists farmers in selecting appropriate treatments, and is accessible through computers and mobile devices. Future work should expand the knowledge base and improve diagnostic accuracy.
