Nephroprotective Potential of the Combination of White Turi Leaf Extract (Sesbania grandiflora (L.) Pers.) and Vitamin C on Kidney Function Parameters (BUN and Creatinine) in Male White Rats (Rattus norvegicus) Induced by Paracetamol

Kidney damage induced by toxic doses of paracetamol may increase oxidative stress, as indicated by elevated MDA, BUN, and creatinine levels. White sesbania leaves (Sesbania grandiflora (L.) Pers.) and vitamin C have potential antioxidant and nephroprotective properties. This study aimed to evaluate the nephroprotective effect of a combination of white sesbania leaf extract and vitamin C in male rats induced with toxic-dose paracetamol. A laboratory experimental study with a pre-posttest control group design was conducted using 40 male Wistar rats divided into eight groups. Paracetamol induction increased BUN, creatinine, and MDA levels, while treatment with white sesbania leaf extract, vitamin C, and their combinations reduced these parameters. The 2:1 combination (1000:500 mg/kg BB) showed the best effect. Macroscopic observations revealed normal kidney morphology, and statistical analysis showed significant differences among treatment groups (p<0.05). White turi leaf extract combined with vitamin C exhibited antioxidant and nephroprotective activities against paracetamol-induced kidney injury.
