The Effect of Moringa oleifera L. Leaf Extract on MCV, MCH, and MCHC in Male White Rats (Rattus norvegicus) with Hyperlipidemia

Hyperlipidemia is a metabolic disorder characterized by elevated blood lipid levels that increase oxidative stress and may damage erythrocyte membranes, affecting erythrocyte indices including Mean Corpuscular Volume (MCV), Mean Corpuscular Hemoglobin (MCH), and Mean Corpuscular Hemoglobin Concentration (MCHC). Moringa leaves (Moringa oleifera L.) from Sidokepung, Sidoarjo, contain bioactive compounds with potential antihyperlipidemic and antioxidant properties. This study evaluated the effect of Moringa leaf extract on MCV, MCH, and MCHC in hyperlipidemic male white rats (Rattus norvegicus). Thirty rats were divided into six groups: negative control, two positive controls, and three treatment groups receiving extract doses of 500, 750, and 1000 mg/kg body weight. Data were analyzed using Two-Way ANOVA. MCV and MCH showed no significant differences between treatment groups (p>0.05). MCHC significantly changed before and after treatment (p<0.05), although no significant differences were observed between groups. Moringa leaf extract significantly affected MCHC but not MCV or MCH.
