Abstract

Hyperlipidemia is a metabolic disorder characterized by elevated blood lipid levels that increase oxidative stress and may damage red blood cells, affecting erythrocyte count, hemoglobin level, and hematocrit value. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of Moringa leaf extract (Moringa oleifera L.) on these hematological parameters in hyperlipidemic white rats. An experimental pretest-posttest control group design was used involving 24 male rats divided into six groups: a negative control, two positive controls (simvastatin 0.9 mg/kg body weight and 0.5% Na-CMC), and three treatment groups receiving Moringa leaf extract at doses of 500, 750, and 1000 mg/kg body weight. Hematological parameters were measured before and after treatment using a hematology analyzer. Two-Way ANOVA showed no significant effects on erythrocyte count (p = 0.189), hemoglobin level (p = 0.287), hematocrit value (p = 0.386). Therefore, Moringa leaf extract at the tested doses did not significantly improve these parameters in hyperlipidemic rats.
