Abstract

Long-term alcohol consumption and smoking can disrupt liver function, as indicated by changes in transaminase enzyme levels. This study aims to analyze the differences in SGOT (Serum Glutamic Oxaloacetic Transaminase) and SGPT (Serum Glutamic Pyruvic Transaminase) levels in active smokers and alcohol drinkers based on the duration of consumption. The research method used a laboratory experimental design with a cross-sectional approach, conducted on 30 respondents selected purposively and divided into two groups based on the duration of alcohol and smoking consumption, namely 1–3 and 1–8 years (n=15), and 4–6 and 9–16 years (n=15). SGOT and SGPT levels were analyzed using the IFCC kinetic method and tested with the Independent Samples t-test. The study results showed significant differences in SGOT levels (p=0.010) and SGPT levels (p=0.021). These findings indicate differences in transaminase enzyme levels based on the duration of alcohol and smoking consumption, suggesting changes in liver function.
